WHAT ARE YOU GETTING YOURSELF INTO?

SUICIDE IS THE ULTIMATE REJECTION OF GOD
Suicide, having its very conception formed in the caldron of selfishness, must then, by its very nature, reject God. God’s nature is Love. God is Love. Any person who is daily living in that indescribable fragrance of submission to the everlasting, loving hand of God would find it impossible to commit to the depravity of submission to Suicide. There have been volumes written on this subject. Perhaps you have either read or heard much of what has been said already on the subject of “Can a Christian commit Suicide?”
Let’s take things in order. First, consider those who do not know God personally. Does the Bible say that Suicide is the unpardonable sin? No, not in so many words. God isn’t like Suicide—God wants you to live! God wants you for Himself. God doesn’t need you; He wants you because He loves you so very much! He came to earth to die on the cross of Calvary in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ, to express that Love for you that you might be able to live in the arms of that Love for ever and ever. So, if you murder yourself before you give God an opportunity to give you that Love through His Son, Jesus, then I guess you could say that Suicide is the unforgivable sin. You have forgiveness already awaiting you in Christ. If you choose Suicide, in preference to His gift of Love in eternal life, in that you won’t give God’s forgiveness a chance in your life, Suicide could be said to be unforgivable. But that isn’t God’s fault. You make the selection, not God!
In God’s Word to us, as written to a young man named Timothy, God speaks of how He feels about you and me. God tells us that He wants everyone to understand and to be saved from what lies ahead for those who are not His children. Because God is holy and man is not, there has to be some means of bringing man and God together. God says that is why Christ Jesus, Himself a man, was sent by God to bring the two together. Christ Jesus gave His life to bring God and all mankind together. God has given this message to the world (1 Tim. 2:4-6).
Brash Peter, in his outspoken way, has expressed God’s will in no uncertain terms when he said,
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (1 Pet. 3:9).
You don’t like that word repentance, I suppose? If you violently object to the word, perhaps you don’t know what it means. Do you have Elmer Gantry’s view of repentance? I hope not, because that is not God’s opinion; it is Hollywood’s opinion. To God, repentance means this: ”Don’t walk away from Me; turn around from where you are going, and walk toward My outstretched arms.” I can hear Him saying to you now, “Don’t walk away into death and eternal separation from Me. Turn around! I want you to come to Me! Here is My Son, Jesus; He will bring you to Me.” In fact, Jesus has given you a personal invitation to join Him. He is right there at the door of your heart, knocking. Do you hear Him? Listen:
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me (Rev. 3:20).
God isn’t very far away, is He? How far is the door of your heart? He is right there with you, now! Will you open the door and say, “Come in, Lord Jesus.” That’s all it takes! He will pick up all those burdens that you have found to be just too heavy to carry. It is as though Jesus were saying,
Cast all of your cares—all of your worries, all of your anxieties, all of the things that are too much for you to bear alone—upon Me. I care for you in a very special way, because I love you and want very much to protect you from the trials and tribulations of life that are more than your frail being can bear (1 Pet. 5:7 A.P.).
How can you reject that?! God is there, at the door of your heart, knocking to come in, that He might lift that wearisome burden from off your worn and aching shoulders. He wants to carry your burdens for you. Don’t listen to Suicide say, “Reject God!” Answer Suicide now and say, “It’s too late! I have accepted Jesus Christ as the new Lord of my life!”
But some might say, “I accepted Christ a long time ago. He lifted my burdens then, but they have all come back again.” You, and hundreds of born-again Christians like you, have been tricked into a very common trap. You have gone back into the bondage of slavery to your old defeated life and can’t work your way back to God. I have reserved a whole chapter for you later in this book. You will find some unusual answers there that will give you the key to the land of The Peace That Passeth All Understanding. Wait! Don’t turn there just yet! I have more that I must tell you—about what Suicide is really like.
Why do I claim to know so much about Suicide? I have committed suicide myself!
